Happy Christmas to all

Its the eve of Christmas and pretty much the eve of my year of riding starting. I feel fat, but ready to give it a go. Looking to do my first 100 miles on the 1st Jan.

Talking to a few of my proper cycling mates and the opinion seems to be divided about as distinctly as wether you like Marmite or not. Some say that it will be really hard and what a feat it will be, make me on the one hand feel really good and a little fearful on the other. The others the conversation goes a bit like this:
Them: 'So this challenge of yours. You doing all this on the road?'
Me: 'No, I'm including Turbo training'
Them:'What, thats cheating, surely you'll do it all properly'
Me: 'Er, well it is a hell of a lot of riding'
Them: 'Not really, aren't you going to make it slightly hard to do?'
Me: 'I thought it was - how many miles have you ridden in a year?'
Them: 'I can do it easy, just stick in a couple of 100 mile time trials and some 12 hour rides, no problem'
Me: 'For me this is hard - I haven't ever gone much beyond 4,500 miles in a year'
Them: 'I was going to sponsor you but if its going to be thateasy I'm not sure'
Me: 'Its up to you, its a good cause any way Happy Christmas!'

Leaves me feeling very inadequate. I look forward to evidence from them that they really have done 15,000 miles using one leg and ridden all of the Pyrenees over a long weekend.

Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad, Buon Natale, Frohe Weihnachten, Happy Christmas
